So without further ado, I want to welcome Chris and Karen. 13:09:27 To present to you Chris is the manager of travel training with translink, and he has extensive experience, engaging diverse communities and supporting them to access. 13:09:36 Transit Chris over to you. Thank you, and good afternoon, everybody. 13:09:43 Thank you for like letting me and my colleague, Karen Alex, to join you today. 13:09:48 We are here to share information about our transit system in Metro Vancouver today, and hopefully we'll have some time to answer some questions afterwards. 13:09:59 So let's begin so for a lot of us we probably depending on your comfort level over the last 2 years. 13:10:12 Of course that is the perfect time for people to call me 13:10:18 Sorry about that, That was my home phone. Unfortunately and I can't really touch with that said So a lot of us depending on your situation. 13:10:31 Depends on your on your own comfort level. Some of us might have been in the community. 13:10:37 In the past 2 years. but some of us also know who might be a little bit reluctant to be in the community. 13:10:45 We might have stay home majority of the time in the last 2 or so years. 13:10:50 So it depends on our comfort level. So some of us might have used transit during that time. 13:10:56 Some of us might have not use transit at all and some of us might not even use transit before the pandemic started. 13:11:06 But so today we'll talk about all of that and and provide some information. 13:11:12 So So our community you know, can actually start and participating participating in the going out, not using transit 13:11:29 So right now as you use transit in and or mainland. 13:11:35 Timing is a big Well, it depends. It really depends on your travel. 13:11:44 And also depends on your comfort level. But I think our recommendation to our customers is that if you can travel on less busy time, please do so. 13:11:56 Well, unless busy time it will allow for a little bit more flexibility. 13:12:02 It will also allow for depending on your comfort level I'll allow you to have a little bit more social distancing. 13:12:09 I'll i'll a little more space and a little bit more comfort. 13:12:13 So our suggestion would be if you can for example. If you are going to go shopping, or you just going for a cup of coffee, you don't have to go at a specific time. 13:12:26 Then you travel at less busy times, not during the morning rush hour or the evening rush hour, maybe on the weekends, or may maybe in middle afternoon or or or early evening. 13:12:38 Now, of course, if you are traveling for let's say a doctor's appointment, you really don't have a choice on your timing. then what we suggest is if possible, give yourself extra time, you know and we aren't talking 13:12:54 about going to the bus. Stop 5 min early 10 min early is more about giving yourself extra frequencies, building extra frequencies, so that in case the bus arrives and you don't feel comfortable with the amount of people that is on 13:13:07 the bus. You can wait for the next next bus. That will give you a little bit more flexibility 13:13:18 Now, some of you men also have also heard that there has been quite a few changes on transit. 13:13:26 So, for example, if you haven't been on transit for quite a long time the first time you get on a bus or something might surprise you. 13:13:35 Is that there is now a barrier there's now a door between the the operators compartment and the main compartment of the bus. 13:13:47 So the reason was there wasn't a lot of room to maintain social distancing between where the driver sits where the operated visits, and also where the passenger board. 13:13:57 So what they did was they install these barriers it's transparent. 13:14:01 It's a cla either a glass and door that is the permanent door, or in older buses, where they will each year gradually retire them. 13:14:11 They put no role. Transparent curtains that way the driver and the passenger can continue to communicate. 13:14:22 They could see, so that they could still talk. But it will provide that protection and other thing that we did do during the pandemic was that some of you might have heard that there was a time when what when you go on transit, or be at the 13:14:35 Sky train station. you will need to. Well, customers will need to wear a mask. 13:14:41 So with the provincial mandate changing on that front. 13:14:47 No, no translates follow suit and customers are and employees are welcome to wear masks if they if they would like to do so on transit, but it's up to the choices of the individual passengers and 13:15:02 in these cases, as I suggested earlier, depending on your comfort level, make sure you have enough room and make sure you have enough space. 13:15:10 So that if you get on the bus, and there are customers that are not wearing mass, at least you have the options to move to the other part of the bus. 13:15:21 Where where are the customers are wearing masks, or have social distancing, or wait for another frequency? 13:15:28 Now, on the other hand, for some of our customers, they might be using handy darts so handy. 13:15:34 Dot is how pair of transit service with handy dart because a lot of our customers are seniors, and also persons with disabilities, and a lot of them use them for medical appointments or medical purposes 13:15:47 That's why on handy dart currently customers are still required to wear mask on on their trips 13:16:03 So for those of you that haven't been using transit for quite a while, or have never used transit before. The one of the easiest way to get information about our transit system is go on our website. 13:16:17 So our website is Www. Dot translating. Ca: on the website. 13:16:22 The first thing you will see is our trip planner so the trip. Planner will help you find out how to get from one location to another location, and we'll walk through that in a second on how to do that there's also 13:16:36 bus schedule. Some of you might not have got copies of what booklets or by schedules before. But nowadays a lot of these are online. 13:16:46 So you can go to our website, or you can call that says 649, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 to get the latest schedules. 13:16:55 There are also news about what is coming up. So, for example, some of you might have heard that we recently announced out the 10 new priorities for the transport 25, you know. 13:17:08 The long term plan for transit in the region. So you can actually go to our website at translating. 13:17:15 Ca: and find out information about major projects like that right now. 13:17:20 You can actually participate in a survey to provide your input on our 10 year priority. 13:17:27 So you can log into the website and and participate in a survey to make your voice hurt. 13:17:37 One thing I do want to point out is that on our website there's this area called Alerts and Advisory. 13:17:43 So these are transit alerts. What they do is basically on this part of the website. 13:17:49 They will tell you everything that didn't that might not be going according to plan, on your chat transit. 13:17:55 Trip. So, for example, if there are detours of a bus route because of construction, or for some of our customers, they might need to use the elevators or escalators to access scattering station, but sometimes they might be 13:18:10 under maintenance, or they might have broke down. and they will provide a alerts to let our customer know that, some of these facilities might not be available and and provide alternative route on how you could mitigate 13:18:27 that part of the interruptions. Now, as I think everybody on on this call right now. they they have some capacity to go online, but they might be other members that we know that do not have the access to go online. 13:18:46 So there's still the phone number so transplant Continue to have the customer information line, and customers can call 604, 9, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3 3, and that's the line to provide to ask questions, but also 13:19:01 to provide comments and feedback about our services 13:19:09 So let's walk through the trip. planners so when you go to Wwww. 13:19:15 Ww. translating. Ca: All you have to do is let us know where you are starting your journey, and where you're ending your journey. 13:19:21 So, for example, if you're starting from your home you you know the address of your home, so you could just type in your address. 13:19:29 But what if you go into a location where you don't necessarily know? 13:19:37 Know the a address, For example, if anybody wants to go to let's say Metro town, not a lot of people know Metro Towns address. 13:19:43 But what you can do is you just type in the name of a popular location. 13:19:49 So you type in Metro Town, and they will put in the address for you. 13:19:52 After that you just click on the plan. My trip, and they will show show you different routes on how to get and get to your your destinations. I do apologize. 13:20:07 The screen is a little bit small, but on the left hand side it shows you everything. 13:20:12 All the different routes that you can take and on the map. It shows you how it would work on a mapping base. 13:20:19 Now let's say you like one of the options you could click into one of them, and then, like a plane ticket. 13:20:26 It will show new, different steps on where you're starting where do you have to go to wait for the bus along? 13:20:33 How long, or a walk would that be? and and where do you transfer? 13:20:38 And things like that, so it will have a detailed options on how to get from where you need to, where you need to go. and what you can do is you can also take the options to specific times, and also to specific routes this is actually a 13:20:58 very useful tool you could print it out if you have a cell phone, You could take a picture of it, or of course, if you don't have those options, you can also call 6, o 4, 9, 5 3. 3. 13:21:10 3, 3, 3, and they can walk you through that trip 13:21:17 Now, another useful tool to use is if you have a cell phone you don't necessarily need to have data wha if you But as long as you have the capability to text, you can actually find out when the next 2 bus is gonna show 13:21:33 up at your bus. Stop! What you can do is, you know, with your cell phone, you text the phone number 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3. 13:21:44 So instead of a 604 or 7, 7, 8 number, you are texting the phone number just 5 threes, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3. 13:21:51 And then in the message you, let us know where you're at by telling us the bus Stop number every bus stop has a 5 digit bus. 13:22:00 Stop number like this, and you type it in and that will tell us where you are. 13:22:05 Oh, so you let us know where you are and then also what you're looking for which bus route, So for example, in this case we type in 5, 295 a space, and then the bus route 99, if 13:22:19 you send that message a few seconds later, they will send you a message to let you know. 13:22:25 When the next true bus is gonna show up, or approximately, when the next 2 bus is going to show up at your bus. 13:22:33 Stop. this this is or they use calculations and Gps to to calculate the location of the bus to try to give you relatively accurate time on when the bus is going to show up. 13:22:48 Now with that, said there are times that the bus might be delayed, or in my arrive a little bit faster, depending on the traffic situation. 13:22:58 So this is a good reference but it's not to say that if it says 1125 and the bus doesn't show up at 1125. please don't be alarmed. 13:23:08 Because it might be arriving a little bit later. depending on the traffic situation 13:23:22 Now our our bus system is no actually equipped with equipment to to allow for customers with different abilities, to use our general, normal, conventional transit system. 13:23:50 For example, all our buses in lower mainland, in Metro, Vancouver are equipped with lift and ramp. 13:23:51 So our buses have a ramp that can be deployed to allow for mobility devices to board, and also the front of the bus can be lowered. 13:23:51 Also there's hydraulics that will allow the bus to be lowered so that the entrance can better match the curb. 13:23:58 Any customers can use this, any customers that need these equipment. 13:24:02 They can just communicate with the driver to let them know Id to use the ramp. 13:24:06 Or can you lower the bus and the drive the operator will accommodate, if you can, if you can, communicate, by all means just communicate. 13:24:16 But if you for example, they are customers that might have difficulty with English. there are these card called lift ramp cards, so they're pink with the word lift-in ramp on it. 13:24:28 And what you can do is when you have one of these cards, you could just use it as a flashcard and just wave it at the driver when the driver shows up, or some of our customers do put them 13:24:42 in more permanent location. For example, if they have a mobility 8, they put it in the in front of the basket in front of the mobility aid. 13:24:51 I actually had a very, very nice old lady that actually put where the sign like a metal or so, that that was actually very innovative. 13:25:06 So depending on the company comfort level of the customer, you can, you know, display the card as you need them, 13:25:19 Now all our buses also come with priority seats. 13:25:23 So all the priority seats are designed for company with disabilities, and also seniors. 13:25:31 They are also for for and ladies, and also Well, true 13:25:37 Parents with young children and Schroller, or work, or or one of those team baby baby strollers. 13:25:46 But I think one of the things that we want to be very clear on is that priority Seats are given priorities to customers in these categories. 13:25:59 They are not reserved for customers so there are times that we will see people that might not fit in the description of those categories, and they will be seated in those seats. 13:26:13 It's okay to sit in those seats but what we also do, is we? 13:26:17 We can communicate with our passengers to please. pay attention. 13:26:24 2 of the passengers that are boarding so will they that they are aware if somebody is in need of the seat more than they do, they offer to see 2 other passengers, and it's also important to note that they are passengers, 13:26:39 that have invisible disabilities, that they might not look like they have a need for these seats, but they might actually have a wrong need for for these seats. 13:26:51 So. please be connison. No, please be aware of that. 13:26:54 And if you communicate with a person and they set they need the seats, it's okay by all means Move on to the next person. 13:27:04 Ask the next passenger if they, if they can give you the seat 13:27:11 And other passengers will be more than happy to do so. 13:27:16 Now, as we mentioned earlier, our buses, they do a accommodate or they are able to accommodate mobility aids. 13:27:25 So in the priority seats the privacy is affordable. 13:27:28 So sometimes, if a customer will would like to board with a wheelchair or mobility aid, and the operator might ask, People see that in the priori seats to move to another part of the bus, because that way it will 13:27:41 allow the operator to fold up the the seats to allow for the mobility to park in in those spots, so that way customers with different needs can also use the conventional bus system 13:28:01 No, of course it's just a quick flag from my end here. 13:28:06 I I just Wanna. note that the Q. A. is active right now. 13:28:12 So if you have a question as Chris is going through, feel free to just pop it in there. 13:28:19 And and Karen is actually answering as we go. 13:28:21 So. don't lose your question put it in there. and and Karen will flag if Chris is going to attempt to address this in in our kind of Q a section at the end. 13:28:32 But yeah, I just wanted to encourage folks to not be shy. 13:28:36 And and and start engaging on there, if if they're ready to Okay, sounds good. 13:28:41 , Thank you. yeah, no problem. Okay, So let's continue So there are times on our trips that of course, we will need some assistance. 13:28:51 So there might be questions, or it might be that some or something change. 13:29:00 So let's say, for example, bus went on a detour, and it took on a different route. 13:29:05 So. you might have some questions about that. So at times you will need to get some questions answered. 13:29:13 And of course, anytime, when you have that, you can request for assistance from our staff. 13:29:18 So, of course, on a bus. The easiest way to do it is to speak to our bus operator. 13:29:25 I'll bus operator are very friendly and you can just ask them questions. 13:29:30 So, for example, when you board the bus, you can actually ask them, Will this bus take me to a specific location, the location that I want to go to? 13:29:38 And they can answer You Yes, the bus will take you there or No, This bus Won't take you to the location. 13:29:46 You need to. This is the bus you need to take so they can answer those kind of questions. 13:29:50 Or, if you ever know, are on the bus and you don't feel very comfortable, you can actually let the driver right. 13:29:58 Let the operate it know, and they they can see if they're so. there are ways that they can help you address the issues. 13:30:09 Sometimes you will also see Transit Security officers on our buses. 13:30:14 They sometimes come on board. Now what they do is their job is to make sure. 13:30:17 Of course i'll help us system is safe but what they also do. sometimes. 13:30:22 Is, they come on the bus to check fares. So when when they asked you to see your your trans affairs, you are not in trouble a lot of times. 13:30:31 They just do that for the whole bus and this just random check that they do. so. 13:30:36 If you have a compass card or you have a bus ticket, you can actually just show it to the driver. 13:30:41 But that's Why, it's important to have a valid transit fair at all times after you pay let's say you pay on the bus with cash. 13:30:51 Keep your bus tickets. Do not throw it away because you think that. Oh, i'm getting off this bus, and then i'm done because you do need to have that more valid transfer, or when the transit security asks you to see 13:31:06 it. Now, a lot of people don't know that this service. exists, but we actually have done this for several years. 13:31:17 Now for customers that ride buses in the evenings after 9 0 Pm. 13:31:24 You can actually request for our operator to stop the bus anywhere along the bus route on a regular bus route. 13:31:30 So, for example, if you're if your house is along a bus route, you can actually give advance notice and ask the operator. 13:31:39 Can you stop in front of my house? And then, of course, you tell them your address, because they might not know where your house is. 13:31:48 But if you let them know ahead of time and it's safe to do so, the operator can actually stop along the bus route to let passengers off. 13:31:57 So that way. it's closer to the house no there's no, it's safer for you to walk no way you need to go. 13:32:04 The only exception is that you can not request for request to stop on what they call rapid bus, or those are the express bus route or the highway coaches, because those buses. 13:32:17 They? they don't stop at every stop and they have to maintain a certain bus schedule where whereas a regular bus route. 13:32:25 They are more than happy to do so so. on a regular bus route after 9 Pm. 13:32:30 As long as it's safe You can request for a driver to stop anywhere along the bus route to to shorten your walk to your destination. 13:32:44 Now on Sky train. Of course we have sky train attendance, and you can ask them to assist. 13:32:50 But some of you might have noticed by now that sky train does not have a driver, because it's all automated. 13:32:57 So there might be times that you might not be able to find a staff member on a sky train. 13:33:02 But in a few slides later we will review how to get help on the Sky training system. If there's no scheduling attendant with you, C bus, and we do have C bus crew on both at the stations 13:33:17 and also on board anytime you have any questions or need assistance. 13:33:23 Please reach out to our C bus crew, and they will be more than happy to provide assistance. 13:33:30 Of course we do have the transit police, though Metro Vancouver over transit police force their jurisdiction is to ensure the safety of the whole transit system. 13:33:38 So a lot of times you will see transit police officers on screen trains or at direct train stations. 13:33:45 They are there to patrol, but just like any other police officers, they actually have the full duties 13:33:56 Of the police, except their duty is on the transit system 13:34:05 Now we also want to share some safety tips. so some safety reminders. 13:34:12 So, for example, one thing we talked about earlier in in this snow workshop is that please arrive at your desktop a few minutes earlier than the schedule to arrive, so I usually recommend 10 to 15 min gets you to 13:34:33 the bus stop to ensure that you get on the bus. 13:34:36 Well, if this on time the one thing I do want to avoid is to have customers run after a bus. 13:34:44 I'm sure many of us have been in that situation where we are walking to a bus stop and a bus is arriving, and we have this urge to. 13:34:52 I want to run to get to the bus a lot of times That's when accidents happen people trip and fall, or or they they, or or worse, they might be across the street. and they have this first to run across the street to cache 13:35:07 the bus, so please avoid that temptation by being a by being at the bus. 13:35:14 Stop a little bit earlier when you're riding the bus hold on to something. 13:35:18 Hold on to a extension. Hold on to a poll. 13:35:22 Even if you see it, because buses make their movements, and and some of us might have noticed that there are times that buses might have to do. 13:35:32 Emergency brakes and things like that because of traffic. 13:35:36 The in those cases, if you're not holding onto something you you might have lost your balance, and you might have thought cost you to fall. 13:35:46 So it's highly recommended that if possible, even when you see that hang on to something, because that way, even if you lose your balance, you, you are holding onto something to help you maintain your balance if you need the ramp as we 13:36:00 talked about earlier. Please talk to the operator. Just let them know I need the ram. 13:36:04 I need to need a bus to you Lower, Please No, provide that. 13:36:24 Or you could actually let the operator know if you need extra time to get to your seat or to prepare to exit. 13:36:24 If you specifically let the operator know that a lot of operators will be more than happy to give you that time. 13:36:24 A lot of these has to do with communication. Please let them know. but if you need that time, and they will do the best to accommodate, and in and you know times that you you do need a seat. 13:36:36 But the bus is full. Please ask your fellow passengers you'll follow passengers. 13:36:42 A lot of them are more than happy to to assist, especially if they see somebody that is in need. 13:36:47 If one person doesn't doesn't give you the seat it's okay. 13:36:50 Move on to the next person if you are 2 or 3 people. 13:36:55 I'm sure as a society we we have genuinely good people that they will offer a seat 13:37:10 Now in law or mainland, more in metro vancouver we're still using the zone system. 13:37:16 Some of you might have heard that we were doing a fair review a few years ago, and where they were talking about changing the system to what this more distance space travel. 13:37:32 So work is still being done on that. and that is coming in in a few years. 13:37:38 But so currently We're still using the zone system so for those of you that Aren't aware what the phone system is is basically Metro Vancouver is separated into 3 different colors or or 3 different sounds. 13:37:53 So. what you do is as long as you travel within one zone. 13:37:57 You only buy one zone ticket, so for example, if you stay and travel in only the city of Vancouver, which is one color. so no matter how far you travel within that one zone, it could be that you only travel 2 blocks or 13:38:15 you are going all the way from Ubc all the way to one block before boundary. 13:38:20 As long as you stay within that zone you only buy a one zone ticket. But as soon as you cross the boundary into another cell. so let's say you go from Vancouver to Bernabe even if you 13:38:37 only travel from one side of Vancouver to the atmosphere from one side of the boundary to another side of the boundary. 13:38:46 If you travel on the sky training, you travel, choose zones. 13:38:50 So in this case, from Vancouver to Bernabe, you are traveling 2 zones, and it's interestingly enough, even if you go from Bernabe into Vancouver, and then you travel to north 13:39:04 Vancouver, even though you cross 2 boundaries, but because Bernabe and North Vancouver is in the same zone. You only buy a 2 zone tickets because you only touch 2 zones. 13:39:17 So it's not quite by how far you go but it's by how many sons you touch 13:39:27 The only time you have to buy a 3 zone Ticket is if you travel on sky train all the way from Vancouver Crossing Bird be a new Westminster into Coquet La Mossuri that's 13:39:39 the only time you would touch all 3 colors, and in those cases you pay the 3 zone price and their way to save money. 13:39:49 If you travel after 6, 30 Pm. on Monday to Friday on Saturday, Sunday, or on holidays, anytime during those day, or if you only travel on buses to go anywhere, you need to go as long as you do any of 13:40:05 these 3 any trip. This one zone and that's the cheapest fair you can buy 13:40:16 So how much, exactly is it to travel So for for anyone over 65, or if they are between the age 13 to 18, you you can buy a concession fair, which is the orange compass card. 13:40:28 So the concession fair is a little bit cheaper is $2 for one zone, $3 for 2 zone or $4 and 5 cents for 3 zones, and if you travel on transit, a lot you can actually buy a 13:40:44 monthly pass on a concession card, and it only costs $57. 13:40:50 So after a few trips, if you do 2 or 3 trips a week, it's actually better to purchase a monthly pass, because it's actually unlimited travel for the whole month 13:41:07 Now there are different from a fair products that you can buy. but for anyone that is over 65 you can purchase what they call the concession cart. 13:41:15 The concession card is orange, and it will give you the concession fair. 13:41:21 This recommended that for our customers that use the orange card. 13:41:25 Please perch new piece bring an Id with you because you might be 65. But you might not look like you're 65. so it will be very difficult for you to explain to someone that is checking fares and they believe that you are 13:41:38 actually under the age of 65 so it's better to have a piece of Id with you if you don't have a compass card. 13:41:46 It's Okay, you can actually also purchase one time use compass ticket at the ending machines at the Sky train stations. 13:41:53 And these ones are you use it, and then you throw it away with a compass card. 13:41:58 You keep it, and when you run out of money you just add more money to it. 13:42:05 When you purchase a ticket it's good for 90 min to transfer. 13:42:10 So in 90 min I could jump on the bus, get on the sky train and go on to see bus. 13:42:16 I can actually go from on a trip to somewhere and as long as I could get back on the bus or train that I need to get on to go home before 90 min. I can actually go and return on the same ticket But as long as 13:42:35 i'm past the 90 min I have to buy a new ticket. 13:42:41 So the take a script for 90 min, and as long as you can determine how far you can go, or if you can go back and forth, you can actually travel on one ticket 13:42:59 Now, when customers go through a sky train or C bus, they will go through what they call the compass gates with the compass gates. 13:43:08 You do need to have a compass card or compass ticket for those items. 13:43:15 So, for example, you know, when you go through a sky trains station you will see these skates right here. 13:43:21 So with the with a gate. What you do is you take your compass card, and oh, we recommend you tap on the right hand side. 13:43:30 So. Well, there are 2 readers, one on the left and one on the right on the gate. 13:43:36 So what you do is you tap on the right hand side blue circle. 13:43:41 The reason why we suggest that is, for example, if you are going through this gate right here on the right hand side, if you tap on the right hand side to have on this blue circle right there, the gate in front of you will 13:43:55 open, and you can go in, and there there is no rush to go through the gate. 13:44:01 The gate. The gate has sensors until you break all the sensors. 13:44:04 It will not close the gate, but if you go through this gate and you tap on the left hand side, you will notice that the gate in front of you did not open it, opened the gate next door so you are stuck at that 13:44:21 gate. Now, if it's not a very busy station, you can probably just walk over and go through the other gate, but in a at a busy time, it might be that somebody already walked through your your tab and you are stuck there so in 13:44:37 those cases you could wait a few minutes and tap your card again. 13:44:41 That will allow you to reopen the gate. but the the easier way is to remember to tap on the right hand side 13:44:54 Chris. I may have missed it. but Did you talk about where to get a compass? 13:45:02 An orange compass card. No, so I did not talk up specifically about that. 13:45:06 So for anyone that would like to get a compass card orange compass card, or or the ones for 65, and older. 13:45:13 They are not as available at a sky train station. But what you can do is there are few options. 13:45:19 You can actually go online or give us a call, and they will send one to your house, or you can go to your local stores like shoppers or London drugs, and you could buy from the cashiers a lot of them they will 13:45:33 sell these compass cards to orange, compass cards and when you get pick it up you pay a $6 deposit and it's a deposit. 13:45:43 So if at some point you you return the call back to translating. 13:45:46 They do give you back to $6 as a deposit We've also had a question about what what progress has been made in providing a free bus pass. 13:45:59 If you want to talk about the provincial government providing those. 13:46:07 So. are we talking about? I think I saw a question earlier about free free bus passed for seniors and pensioners. 13:46:15 So So right now, the right now the province does provide what they call a Bc. 13:46:22 Government investment. So Bc. Government bus paths are for seniors or persons with disability that is, low income, so that one is provided by the province, and well, what not anyone can do as if they would like to apply for that 13:46:36 they can go to the website under the provincial government under social development. 13:46:43 And there's a phone number you could call that phone number and They will. 13:46:46 They will go through the application process. It does require a check on on your finances. 13:46:55 You'd have to send them your text or text returns and to let them know that you are qualified for guaranteeing income, supplement or disability supplement that's when you qualify for the Pc government 13:47:09 bus pass Well, as I mentioned earlier, there was that fair review that no we talked about the distance base and also sound based travel. 13:47:20 Part of that discussion was also to talk about who should be who should get some assistance. 13:47:27 On transit. So, for example, they were talks about children getting from transit and or seniors getting free transit. 13:47:35 So that's all part of the conversation and the recommendations. so, for the province is reviewing those those options. 13:47:45 And so, for example, David, the province recently made announcement that children under 12 they can. 13:47:52 They get to travel for free on transit now. so there might be other or other options coming up. 13:48:01 As the province. Look into this a little bit further 13:48:07 Now we also mentioned earlier that if you are at a scheduleing station, and you see a scheduling attendant, and you have a question you can ask the scratching attendant. 13:48:19 But what if you can't find a scratching attended what you can do? 13:48:22 Is, there are a few different options. So, for example, if you add a sky train station and you just have a general question about using transit. 13:48:32 Every station has a phone in the front of front of the entrance. 13:48:37 It's on the wall. there's no buttons on it and the phone is black. 13:48:40 You could pick up the phone, and it will connect you to what they call the customer information line, which is the 604, 9, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 number. 13:48:49 So you could ask them general questions about for example. How do I get from here to there, or i'm at a scratching station. 13:49:00 Where is the bus? stop for this route? so they can actually assist you. 13:49:04 But what if you're looking for emergency help you need somebody to come help you right now? 13:49:10 So in those cases there is this thing called the Safety and Security Panel. 13:49:16 So these panels are usually behind the gates in the concourse, or also on the platforms. 13:49:24 There there's a lip door right there and There's a handle. when you pull the handle to open the door. 13:49:31 There's a red phone inside the red phone it's called an emergency helpful. 13:49:37 So the emergency house phone is for emergency use. You can pick it up and you can talk to our so scattering staff right away. 13:49:47 And what it also does is other than you talking to our staff. 13:49:51 What it also does. It activates the the closed circuit camera, the security cameras that is pointed at the red phone. 13:49:58 And they put it on the big screen in our control room. 13:50:03 So what it does is so for customers that might not be able to communicate. 13:50:06 They can pick up the phone, and I Staff will see what is happening on the camera. 13:50:14 So that way they could send help accordingly, so for customers that might not speak English, or they might not be able to come communicate by phone. 13:50:22 You've as soon as you pick that up and pick up the phone. 13:50:25 We can see what is happening, and we will send help based on what we see and try to assist the customer 13:50:36 Now. But what about inside Sky train inside scheduling? 13:50:40 We also have waste for customers to communicate with us if they need a assistance. 13:50:45 So, for example, if you are on a sky train and somebody is making you uncomfortable, or or they are doing something that you don't think they should be doing, and you would like to contact staff or contact, the police what you can do is when 13:51:01 nobody is looking. When people are not aren't paying attention to you you could press the yellow bar there's a yellow bar on every window on a sky train. 13:51:11 What it does it. It activates a silent alarm so no sound inside the train, but it's sent a signal to our control room, allowing our control room to to know which train has been activated and we will send help to send 13:51:28 staff to the train. To assist. what it also does is actually trigger a little light outside of the train that blinks so the light, the blinking light, is to let staff on the platform. 13:51:43 Now somebody is in need of assistance, so they can go in. 13:51:46 But I think a lot of customers also have this misconception. 13:51:49 They they sometimes see the blinking light and think. Oh, the train is going to pull out of the station now. 13:51:53 I need to run into the train, it might actually means the opposite. 13:52:00 The the blinking light actually means that there is an incident. 13:52:02 Somebody needs assistance. So it might not be the best idea to run into that train at that time. 13:52:10 So in those cases maybe wait for the next train or go into another train 13:52:18 Now for other other circumstances, that you might actually have to speak to somebody right away on our trains. 13:52:25 There are also speaker, phone speaker, phones despite the door. There's a red button that you could press to activate, and you could speak to our staff. 13:52:33 But what that also does is actually activate the speaker phone for the whole train. 13:52:38 So the whole train can hear you. So in in an in in a police incident, or I wouldn't press the was the speaker phone to speak because that way. 13:52:50 Draw attention to yourself. But what you do you use the speaker phone for is in case of an emergency where you need medical assistance or you need staff staff to come. 13:53:00 Help you that's when you press the red button 13:53:10 Now I also want to give some information about how compare Transit System. 13:53:15 Our access transit system. So some some of our customers or some of the the participants today might be interested in learning about No. 13:53:24 Handy dart, or they might already be using Handy Dot now. 13:53:29 So for those of us that know who aren't aware they are actually 2 separate programs under the So call access transit program. 13:53:38 So a lot of people have this misconception that if I callify for a handydot, which is the bus, I would have this thing called a handy cart, or vice versa. 13:53:51 It. It is actually 2 different programs. Handy Dart is the bus that takes you from door to door where you need to go. hey? 13:54:00 Doroth pre booking so you need to call in events to make arrangement for the bus to show up, and there's no hard issue. 13:54:10 So you don't when you board the bus, you don't need to show, an Id to prove that you are that person you get on the handyard handy cart is an Id card, and what that does it actually comes up with benefits that 13:54:24 other allows you to use conventional transit regular transit or other most of transportation, and we'll talk about the difference. 13:54:33 But if you're interested in these programs what you can do is you could download this form from our website, from the handy dot application form or handy card application form and you just fill it out and then when you fill 13:54:47 it out, you and you bring it to your doctor or medical professional, and ask them to verify your condition. 13:55:01 There's also another misconception a lot. of people think that handy dot is only for medical appointments, but, in fact, handy Dot can be used to go to dinner. 13:55:16 You can take it to go shopping. Some people actually take them to go to Kenucks games as long as you book it ahead of time. 13:55:25 You can use these services, you can actually incorporate handy Dot into your regular transit. 13:55:33 So, for example, you can take a handy dart to a sky train station that way. 13:55:38 It will, provides a lot more flexibility, because it might not. 13:55:42 It might be more difficult to book a handy dart that will take you all the way from one end of the city to the out there and out the city. 13:55:51 But if you take the handy dart to the closest sky train station, and you take scattering the rest of the way, that might actually be easier to to arrange. 13:56:03 So what exactly is handy dark, so handy Dart is a door-to-door pickup service. 13:56:10 And what they do is they book a time it could be any time during the day. 13:56:14 So let's say 10 o'clock. but if your appointment is at 10 o'clock. 13:56:18 Your pickup window is 15 min before 2 15 min after in a total of 30 min. 13:56:24 That's another misconception a lot of people think is 30 min, and then, and 30 min to an hour. 13:56:30 It's actually 15 min before, and 15 min after to a total of half an hour, and within that half an hour a customer have to be ready to go anytime during that half. an hour. 13:56:47 Sometimes State do send a taxi, if we don't have enough heavy vehicles, but when we send a taxi, you still only pay your regular bus fare, which is $2, if you are over the age of 65 13:57:05 Now some changes has happened recently with Handydard. So for those of you that might not have used Handy Dart recently, there are some changes. 13:57:15 So, for example, if you use a handy, if you use a compass card on regular transit before you have to buy these tickets because they didn't take come this card so started from October first last year, customers can use the 13:57:30 same compass card they use on regular transit to use on handy dart. 13:57:37 The only difference is, if you are using a Bc. Government bus, pass Pc. 13:57:41 Government best pass? Is not you, eligible on Handy Dot, and with with the introduction of compass card customers, can now enjoy age-based, discount on hand on handydot. 13:57:58 So, for no, some customers that might have used handed up before they they would remember that before Covid, no matter how old you are. 13:58:09 If you ride handy dark, you are paying the full ado fair. so a higher price. 13:58:15 But starter from October first, last year as a senior, or if you are have somebody in your family that is, between the age and 13 to 18, You can actually use the lower price which is $2, per trip So 13:58:32 that that is some savings there, and there are more improvement that are coming to Handy Dart, and for more information please visit translating Dot Ca: for Hdm. 13:58:45 Handy dot or modernization. But what about handy card? 13:58:51 So what's the difference between Handy card and Handyard? So first of all, Handy Dart as we talked about is the bus service. 13:58:59 But you don't have to live in vancouver to use the handydar service. 13:59:04 Somebody visiting from another city in the country, or even from another country. 13:59:10 As long as you use pair transit, and you can prove that you use para transit in in back home. 13:59:16 You can actually use handy dart in in lower mainland while you are in in the area. 13:59:22 But, on the other hand, if you are, you want a handy card, handy card R. 13:59:28 4 customers with permanent disabilities. They have to live in Metro, Vancouver, and they require assistance to use regular transit. 13:59:39 So what does handy cart do? Handy cart gives you several benefits. 13:59:44 Handy card provides anyone that has a handy card. 13:59:49 No matter how old you are, you could be under the age or 65. 13:59:51 You can still use concession fairs. So the cheaper, fair using buses, sky train, and sea bus. 14:00:01 What it also allows you to do is to bring an attendant with you to accompany you on regular transit, and the attendant travel for free. 14:00:11 So you pay you're fair be it the the same be be it concession, fair or regular fair. 14:00:19 But what you do is if you have a handy cart the office you're paying the concession fair, but it allows you to bring an attendant to assist you, and they travel for free, and what it also allows you to do as a as a 14:00:36 customer with a handy card you can purchase what they call taxi savers, so taxi savers a half price taxi vultures for well handicapped customer, so you could purchase pay $50 to purchase a $100 14:00:50 worth each month, and you could use them on your trips. 14:00:55 But one thing I do want to point out that even with the discount taxis are quite expensive. 14:01:03 In lower mainland. The taxi savers are not designed for day to day use. 14:01:07 This more design; for when other options aren't available so there are no conentional buses, or you can't make an appointment with that with a handy dot, so that's when you use the taxi state 14:01:23 Now for a lot of seniors before Covid. 14:01:28 They probably went to library or coming center to pick up a copy of what they call the bus schedules. 14:01:36 But time, bus time, tables, drink covid with the libraries, and the company centers closed. 14:01:43 We no longer print these bus time tables. So for customers that would like bus time tables. 14:01:49 What they can do is they could go online to translate Dot. 14:01:54 Ca: and look for the information. or, if you would like, you can actually call us at 6, o 4, 9, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, and we could print copies of bus schedules for you. 14:02:06 But what I also want to note is when you request for that, maybe just request for the roots you will usually use, because if you, for example, request for a whole schedule, it will be pretty thick like, this, and it will be in big pieces, of 14:02:24 paper, so you might not want to do that, because this is not very convenient for travel. 14:02:30 So request for the specific routes. that might be easier 14:02:39 Now we talked about a lot of information today, and it is a lot to absorb. 14:02:45 But I also want to share some tools that you can use after this workshop, that if you want to look into transit. but you might not have caught everything that we talked about today. 14:02:57 You can look into it at your own pace. So, for example, we came up with these online tools that customers can use at the leisure, and they can go online and learn about our transit system. 14:03:10 So one thing we did was we created this 3 D 360 degree virtual tour of a conventional bus. 14:03:20 So you could go online and look through a bus like going through Google map. 14:03:24 So it's just like inside the bus and you could go up and down it to the front to the back and to look at the different, You know equipment that is available. 14:03:35 And we have little bullet points to. let people know, or some of the features that are in those places. 14:03:45 What we have also done is that we introduce a series of trial training videos. 14:03:49 So there are 8 travel training videos one to teach different modes of transportation or different programs. 14:03:57 So, for example, that's one for how to write a bus one on how to buy a compass ticket, 1 2 on how to use the sky train, one on how to get help things like that. 14:04:10 And we made the of videos multilingual. So for for customers that might not speak English, there are still different language that they they can use. 14:04:19 So, for example, they are available in Cantones Mandarin Punjabi, French, and also American sign language and audio described video. 14:04:31 So for customers of different needs. There are also options for them to use these videos as well 14:04:40 So that's all the information that I I want to know ready to talk about. 14:04:47 So that's the primer presentation so hopefully that was useful information for everyone. 14:04:52 But of course we would also like to open up for some questions, so I will stop sharing screen. and if anyone would like to ask questions or we can, we can look into the these questions. 14:05:08 Now, Chris, you have a question. Yes, on the Q. A. 14:05:12 Are all mobility devices fit to fit on the buses, all the newer ones, even the larger ones. 14:05:18 So. No, so there are limit size. so there is a guideline. 14:05:24 Unfortunately, I don't. have to accept the mentions but what when customers go purchase a mobility aid, We strongly suggest that when you you know we'll purchase them talk to the sales sales team 14:05:38 at the at the house store a lot of them, but we do communicate with No. 14:05:44 The staff at at these wh Wh. wellness, equipment stores to provide them update on like the dimensions and things like that, and a lot of them, if you let them know. 14:05:53 Oh, I need to take this on transit. They would be able to tell you. 14:05:58 Oh, you can take this one on transit or not this one, because this one is too big. 14:06:03 And I also want to point out there is that the dimension is slightly different between Handy Dart and also regular transit. 14:06:12 So it's important before you make a major purchase like that to look into that to make sure that they fit in they would allow you to to board kind of along those lines. 14:06:27 We had another question: How large an item can someone bring on the on the bus? 14:06:33 So I think a lot of times is you need to use your best judgment. 14:06:39 With items. they are expected that you first of all need to be able to carry them. 14:06:45 So you need to be able, For example, if you see that you need to be able to put it on your lap. 14:06:52 I know I know their customers that bring our shopping buggy like little shopping cards and things like that. As long as you can pull it into a spot without blocking the main access way in the middle. You can break You can break Bring it 14:07:11 with you so well. but it's also important to note that the call some some of the cards nowadays are pretty big, too. 14:07:20 So. but the prior Oh, but the main all way to remember is that it has to be out of the way, and if needed, they can be collapsible. 14:07:30 So, for example, if the is one of those big cards that looks like they like the size of like half a table. 14:07:39 They need to be able to fold up, so that if needed, they can be folded up and slot it. 14:07:45 Between the seats. any other questions there karen that that you wanted to kind of play, and and thank you for all your answers in in the Q. and A. 14:08:00 That's great, but anything that you wanna elevate for for the wider group. 14:08:04 Someone asked more. What What about more frequent transit service? 14:08:09 We have a new 10 Year plan that addresses that issue, and we have a survey with bus questions and sky trained questions. 14:08:18 If people are interested in answering it on the translink dot ca website, and to Karen's point, so translating actually evaluate our bus service like every quarter. 14:08:30 So we we do adjustments to to to address some of the changes and some of the some of the needs that we hear from the community. 14:08:39 But it's important to note that if you ever are in an area that you feel the service are not frequent enough. 14:08:47 The best way to let us know that is to put in a comment, . 14:08:53 Give us a feedback contact Us has 6 o 4, 9, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, or send us an email that way that we can collect these feedback, and we could put it in to the team, that Now they Look at ridership. 14:09:09 And demand, and things like that, and they could always look into the needs. If you don't let us know part part of part of the problem is is kind of like the chicken and the ache. 14:09:20 If there is no supply people don't demand them and keep driving a car. 14:09:26 But if there's no demand, why are we putting supply in somebody have to start somewhere, so it's important to note. 14:09:33 If you are in an area that you think transit service can be better. 14:09:39 Let us know, because that's the only way that we will ever find out, because, for example, I I know quite a few roots. 14:09:47 But I don't know every single route if you start asking these specific routes. I'm gonna have to say I probably don't know that route , just Oh, karen did you wanna go ahead. 14:10:00 Yeah, we have some more questions that have come up in case I need a washroom that I cannot find it nearby. 14:10:07 We have them on on C bus but not in the other locations, so they it's important to note that. 14:10:17 So I think this is a common question that we get from from any time that we're speaking to seniors, groups and things like that. 14:10:27 This is one of the biggest issues that we are trying to address. 14:10:31 Not just in Vancouver it's actually all over North America, or any transit system in the world. 14:10:39 Now, with that, said, I think there are some countries that they are more developed, that they have facilities in every station, and things like that. 14:10:48 Transl link to some of you might have heard that in recent years we did actually, you know, the board actually pro made gave approval. 14:10:58 So we are looking into building washrooms at key hubs like Major Sky train stations and major bus loop. 14:11:07 So that work is being worked on and is underway in the meantime for seniors and customers with disability. 14:11:14 If you ever run into a situation where you need to use bathrooms, what you can do is you could Cono look for a sky train attendant, and then, if this, if the washroom in that location, if the staff washroom in 14:11:30 that location is not in the restricted area, the stuff can actually grant access to customers. 14:11:39 With that a senior, or persons with disability to use their bathrooms. 14:11:43 So that's one way to to alleviate that in the meantime. 14:11:47 But I think there's also something to be set that part of that conversation, and and this is a conversation a lot of us are having in the community. Well, in in the senior in this senior discussion is that part of it is 14:12:05 also to build environment. , we we also have to look at how close are transit hubs, other facilities, or are are things being developed? 14:12:19 So for example, 1 one very prime example that I think was great genius. 14:12:28 That was partnership between the different levels was that at the city of Brooklyn, Portland. 14:12:33 At this for Quitlin skycheing station, there's, a park next to the sketching station, and the washroom at that park is just next to the entrance of the park. 14:12:47 Close to the Sky Train station, so that provide from a washroom access from the city to people that use the sketching station. 14:12:56 So I think there are a lot of that kind of thinking that we need to look into as we continue this conversation. 14:13:04 But translink is looking into buildings. some of these as well at Major Helps, and that will come in in no several years. 14:13:14 And and perhaps Chris if people feel like that's something that would help them access. 14:13:16 Transit they can include that in the comments and section on the website offer that through the telephone number a telephone number as well. 14:13:30 I have a few questions that were sent in prior to the event. 14:13:34 So i'll I'll pepper those in here for a moment, Karen, and then maybe you can bring us back to some that have come up on the Q A. 14:13:44 Bar . I did just want to acknowledge. Judy had asked. 14:13:49 If the workshop video will be put up on Facebook or some other platform, it'll be up on the moving connect page on the active aging website by next week. 14:14:02 And our team can just throw that a link up in the chat, and it'll also be sent direct to your inbox. 14:14:08 So, so I think. take home There is there's lots of rich information here, Chris and Karen that people want to be able to access later. 14:14:16 So. So thanks for such a thorough and informative presentation, Chris. 14:14:24 You've addressed a lot of the questions that came in prior to the webinar. 14:14:28 But but when that has come up a couple of times is and you did address it in the transit, planning kind of long range planning comments. 14:14:39 But a number of people flagging challenges 14:14:44 With the length of roots, you know, having to travel from maybe a suburban space to a city, or like a more urban center to them. 14:14:57 Go back out to another neighborhood community. So so no kind of direct routes between neighborhoods needing to make that that transit route into the city and then coming back out again. 14:15:09 So do you. Could you? Could you speak to that? And and how long range planning is is taking that into account. 14:15:16 So I I think there are a few few few things there, so I I think, as seniors now, age in the community where they live for a long time. 14:15:27 Of course, they want to stay in the area where where they live but I think that's the other part of the conversation is that the services that they need might not be in their area that they are in so I I think that requires 14:15:42 a a much bigger conversation, and it's not just transportation is that our our seniors, or any vulnerable group, for that matter. 14:15:52 Are they getting the services they need in the community? 14:15:59 There are people that when they have the financial means, or if they have or they made the decision to some of them. 14:16:07 For example. my parents are are kind of doing this. They are looking at getting rid of their their home in like more quiet side of Richmond, and moving towards closer to a transit home. 14:16:23 So downsizing buying closer to to transit ups. 14:16:29 But of course, buying a closer transit hubs are not cheap, so they are having a delivery difficulty of doing that right now. 14:16:38 They can't seem to when any bits that in a reasonable price, for that matter. 14:16:44 So it it is. That part requires a bigger conversation But I I think the other part that what we're trying to do, and no karen kind of raised. 14:16:55 That was that the the transfer 2050 that's the long term plan, the long term transportation plan for lower mainland, and the we recently just announced that we revealed the the first 10 years plan and in that tenure 14:17:11 plan We one of the commitment was to double the the bus service that we have, and actually look into what they call the rt. 14:17:23 Well bus repet transit. So what transit and data they would be able to put? 14:17:30 Yeah to more areas without building the big infrastructure so it's cheaper is quicker. 14:17:39 And one would say that they would be able to access more areas, because you don't necessarily have to clear the the ground to build a overpass bridge. 14:17:51 That kind of thing. So there! there are many different ways that we know we're looking into different options to do that kind of thing. 14:18:00 But I think the other part of it is that we need feedback from our community. 14:18:06 They need to let us know where in the area. do they need to service? 14:18:12 Because we can look at service by statistics, by generalist data only by senior sharing their thought, sharing like using experience with us. 14:18:28 Sometimes we might only see the big picture like our. 14:18:33 Are we getting the bus there fast enough or direct enough, but then It might be that the seniors or other vulnerable groups, They are scattered throughout the community, and the change might actually have a negative impact on them So it's important to 14:18:58 let us know that kind of thing when when that happens so that's Why, it's important to know with the 6 o 4, 9, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3 3 number it's not just about the current trip. 14:18:59 That you're taking, but also if you live in an area that and you feel that the transfer service also there's a change coming that might affect me. 14:19:09 Let us know that as well because we we would like to hear those things before we implement changes. 14:19:17 That end up might be being negative. 2 to some of our phone or both groups. 14:19:23 Yeah, Exactly. and i'm i'm we still have 52 people on the call with us. 14:19:28 So maybe this is a call to action. If you have a a service need That's not yet being met. share it with Chris and his team through the the channels Chris is mentioned. 14:19:39 Engage your neighbors and family and friends who may also be wanting to get on to transit. 14:19:45 But maybe don't have the service. options reflecting their needs, and quite in the way that they they like it. 14:19:55 I also just want to highlight i'm not sure if better environmentally. 14:19:58 Sound transportation is still on, with us but they're leading they're called best for short they're leading as seniors on the move project, and and really kind of digging in deep to transportation issues affecting seniors 14:20:14 and and engaging with a variety of groups and communities across across Bc. 14:20:20 I believe. So i've just put their seniors on the Move Project web page in the chat will include it in our our resources. 14:20:31 We are coming up on about 10 min before close and karen. Can I pass it over to you for any lingering questions there that'd be great karen sorry before we do that. 14:20:43 I do want to add this, so I I know that there there are many participants in here today that well, they might belong to a senior group or a vulnerable group that can find this information useful so part of What me and Karen do 14:20:59 is that we go into the community and give presentations or to answer questions about transit, you know, transit issues for seniors and also other vulner group groups. 14:21:12 So if there is ever any need of not that, let us know by either. 14:21:16 Contact them as a as translink, and i'll give You know everybody, a phone number that they can call it's our travel training line, the 604, 9, 5, 3, 3, 6, 3, 6, You can give us a call leave us and 14:21:30 leave us your name and your number, and the group that you represent, and what you would like of for us to support, be at a workshop, or just to answer some questions. or if you have an information fair that you want to practice, we can look 14:21:43 at all. that perfect and and and best is still on the line. 14:21:50 And they've just mentioned in the chat that they're they're excited to share the release of their survey findings that they've been in survey mode over the last year or more and lots 14:22:03 lots of take home messages I expected from that so so i'll be sure that the activating society promotes that release through our channels. 14:22:14 Many of you are already on our newsletter so so it'll be there. 14:22:17 But go to best directly and and get on their newsletter. 14:22:21 Sorry karen i'm i'm cutting off i'm not doing what I said I would do. 14:22:26 But i'm gonna hand. it over to you again in a minute. But but Kristin Karen, do you have a newsletter, or just translating, have a newsletter? 14:22:34 That people can can join up and and learn about these, you know, 10 year plan releases or or engagement events where input can be shared. 14:22:44 Yup, you could sign up for the new newsletter, or you E: News alerts 14:22:51 On our website at Www dot translating ca So there there are email groups that like you could choose different subject that you're interested in. and they think it's a new updates as they are available Okay, over to you 14:23:06 Karen. Well, the first question is for you, actually, is this workshop video going to be on Facebook or other people learning? 14:23:14 Yes, yeah, I think I did. I did tackle that one It's gonna be on our moving connect web page if you pop up on the chat that's , has been provided in the link , but 14:23:25 we're gonna we're gonna tackle your inbox, and make sure you get that you dealt with that so eloquent, you know. 14:23:36 So , I do apologize for that everyone it just , I just silent all the phone in the world. But I can't , , , karen other questions. 14:23:53 We have a question here about transfers being about available. 14:23:56 I think, Chris, did you talk about the fact that all buses are one zone? Yeah. 14:24:00 So all possible are one zone, and transfers are available now. 14:24:04 But with that set I also want to point out that when you go on a bus paying cash they give you a bus transfer. 14:24:28 So some of you might remember these like from the good old days like It's a paper transfer that they just rip off, so there's no no digital no chips on it you could use these transfer continuously on buses 14:24:28 for 90 min, but what it will not allow you to do is to transfer onto sky train or C bus, because there's no chip in it, and it couldn't open the gate. 14:24:37 So with these bus transfers you only travel on buses, and you only pay $2 as a senior to get that ticket like that. 14:24:47 But they are available. We have a question here. Someone was invited to support the transportation as a right activism project in 2,020. 14:24:58 Is that something that the active aging society is, or was familiar with a question for me? 14:25:06 No, it was not. And actually that was in my list of questions to post to Chris. 14:25:11 Can you speak to that? or do you know about that project I Don't remember that project. 14:25:23 We can if we can take that back and definitely, speak to our colleagues and see if there is any progress, or anyone has done any movement on that. 14:25:33 Yeah. and i'm gonna just pop my email address and the chat. 14:25:39 So, for whoever pose that question sorry actually do. Karen, you probably have that on the Q. 14:25:45 A Amanda did. so Amanda feel free to drop me an email, and I can connect you with Chris. 14:25:52 And and we can learn more. And, Amanda, I do want to add that so that might not be something that try translink was specifically involved in. 14:26:02 But, on the other hand, that has been a conversation going on in like , the senior support. 14:26:08 Vulnerable group supporting community. So one of the things that we have been working with is and best is also in that group, and multiple well, nonprofits are in it before you know united way. 14:26:22 Is a big one of them is that there's a big transportation strategy that discussion going on 14:26:31 So if if any one here let's go into the summit of aging this week on Thursday and Friday, there will be some discussion about that that transportation survey and trustees plan, and that's What 14:26:46 what's mentioned or Rebecca mentioned that a little bit earlier. 14:26:49 That best is doing so. It involves a big part to and it's not only limited to lower Mainland. 14:26:56 It's also. well about the whole province as well is taking a transportation audit for the whole province. 14:27:03 Where are we at and different areas have different different needs so it's important to capture all of that. 14:27:13 So maybe, and get involved on that work if you are already not in it already. 14:27:19 I just popped the summit link. that Chris is referring to you into the chat there, and 3 united way. 14:27:26 You can navigate to some of their other collaborating mechanisms to keep connected, especially if you are a senior serving organization. 14:27:38 And if you are at this summit I will see you there i'd like to read a comment that someone wrote in the Quinton the Q. and A. 14:27:45 My mother uses a wheelchair, and requires an attendant. 14:27:48 Last week she and I traveled from her care home to my father's home by Handy Dart. 14:27:52 We never had used it before. It was wonderful, very Rumi very clean, and the driver was so kind, patient, and professional. 14:28:00 What a great service and a life changer for our family! 14:28:03 Thank you so much for that comment marilyn yeah thank you Marilyn. 14:28:07 I'm so glad that to hear that we'll take that, and comment back to our colleagues at handyard, and is great that the service is working well for for your family. 14:28:21 We have lots of thank Yous on the Q. and a 2 for you. 14:28:24 Chris . thank you. Everyone you guys are too kind and I think on that. I mean ending on this on a high note is is always nice ending off with that that handy dart. 14:28:38 Accolade. It is nice and we're at time anyway. So so, as Karen said, lots of thank you is coming your way. 14:28:46 Chris and and Karen, and translate, Thank you so much for taking the time to collaborate with us on this movement, connect webinar, and to support those who who follow. 14:28:58 The activating societies, newsletter, and and our past choose to move participants and and for helping all of us older adults included, stay active and connected in our community. 14:29:12 And you know we look forward to following up with all of you on through email, with all the wonderful resources provided by Kristin, Karen, and Translink. 14:29:21 If there is anything else you want to talk about through these moving connect webinars, be sure to fill out the survey that comes along with that. 14:29:29 Email You'll get from our team and tell us more about the topics you want to engage in. 14:29:33 We'll definitely return to the the transportation topic to support best survey and and their next steps and and engaging in communities to enhance transportation options for seniors. 14:29:49 So have a fabulous tuesday afternoon everybody and we'll see you soon, I hope.
